Admin guide
Admin Manual
For admins. Your home is /admin with 4 links: Approvals, Students/Teachers, Courses, and Settings. Admin analytics (users, courses, enrolments, sessions, recent courses, per-grade counts) live on /dashboard.
1. Approve teachers and managers
Open Approvals
Click Approvals in the sidebar, or go to /admin/approvals. Requests are newest first, split into Pending and Processed.
Approve or reject
On a pending card, check name, email, and requested role. Click Approve to activate the user (they leave /auth/pending and enter their portal), or Reject with a reason. Processed requests stay listed for record.
New teacher cannot log in?
/auth/pending waiting for this exact approval. Check Approvals first.2. Create a course (full steps)
Open the Create Course page
Go to /admin/courses and click New Course / Create Course. It opens /admin/courses/new with the NewCourseForm titled “Create Course — Add a new course to the platform”.
Fill Course details (left column)
Type Title (required, example “Advanced Mathematics”).
Pick Grade Level (“Select grade level”) — this decides which students see the course.
Pick Instructor (required, “Select instructor”) — the teacher who owns the course.
Write Short description (“Brief description shown in course cards”) — one or two lines.
Add a thumbnail (optional but recommended)
Click Upload course thumbnail, choose an image (max 5 MB, recommended 1200×600px). To change it click Replace; to remove it click Remove.
Write the Course overview
Under Course overview, fill Course Description (“Detailed course description”) — syllabus, goals, what students will learn.
Attach Course materials (optional)
Under Course materials click Add files, select PDFs, videos, images, or documents (max 50 MB each). Each file shows name and size with an X to remove it before saving.
Set Visibility (right column)
Upcoming = “Not yet open for enrollment.” Featured = “Highlight on the homepage.” Self enrollment = “Let users enroll themselves” (keep ON unless you want manual enrolment only).
Click Create Course
Top-right: click Create Course. While saving it shows Creating.... On success you return to /admin/courses and the course appears in the list. Missing title or instructor shows an error at the top — fix it and click again. Click Cancel (top-right or back arrow) to leave without saving.

3. Course list — /admin/courses (Search + grade pills + New Course)
Open Courses
Click Courses in the sidebar, or go to /admin/courses. Header shows Courses + subtitle (“Manage all courses and enrollments”; managers see “View all courses and enrollments”) and a top-right New Course button (Plus icon) that opens /admin/courses/new.
Search box
Below the header is a GET form: a search input with placeholder Search courses (magnifier icon). Type a title or description and press Enter — the page reloads with ?search=.... There is a hidden Search submit button plus a hidden grade field that keeps your grade filter while searching.
Grade pills (All + each grade)
Pills row: All (/admin/courses) plus one pill per grade (/admin/courses?grade=GradeName). Active pill is dark; others are light blue. Click a pill to filter. Combines with search: ?grade=X&search=Y.
Course cards — View details + teacher assigner
Grid of cards (2 per row on desktop). Each card: banner (MapleStars / Course), title, grade badge, description (“No description” if empty), teacher avatar + name (or “TBA”), “N enrolled”, and footer with View details (opens /admin/courses/[id]). Bottom-right of each card is the CourseInstructorAssigner (icon variant) to swap the teacher without opening the course — hidden for managers.
Empty state
If no courses match, you see “No courses yet” with a Create your first course link to /admin/courses/new.
4. Course detail — /admin/courses/[id] (banner + tabs + enrol)
Instructor banner
At the top, an instructor banner shows the current teacher with CourseInstructorAssigner variant=button — click it, pick a new instructor from the dropdown, and save. Students of the matching grade are auto-enrolled when the course opens.
Same 5 tabs as teachers
Dashboard (New Session / Add Chapter / Upload Material + stats), Sessions (Course Sessions table with Join / Attendance), Editor (chapters + Add Lesson), Materials (Upload File + Uploaded list), Settings (title, grade, thumbnail, Visibility toggles). See the Teacher Manual section 8 for each tab in detail.
Enrol students
Click Enroll Student (opens EnrollGradeForm dialog listing not-yet-enrolled students), pick the student, add grade if asked, confirm. The Enrolled count updates after refresh.
5. Teachers list — /admin/teachers (TeacherList)
Open Teachers
Click Teachers / instructors in the sidebar, or go to /admin/teachers. You see TeacherList: one row per instructor with avatar, name, email, course count, and total student count across their courses.
Inspect a teacher
Click a teacher to see their courses (with grade names) and enrolment counts. Use this to balance load (who teaches most students) before assigning a new course to them in section 2/3.
6. Notifications — /admin/notifications (NotificationForm)
Open Notifications
Go to /admin/notifications. You see the NotificationForm.
Fill Title, Message, and Link
Type Notification Title (example “New Assignment Available”), Message (“Enter the notification message...”), and optional Link URL (example /student/courses — “Users will be redirected here when they click the notification”).
Pick Target Audience
Choose one card: All Students (“Send to every student enrolled”), All Instructors (“Send to every instructor”), or Everyone (“Send to all users”).
Click Send Notification
Click Send Notification. While sending it shows Sending.... On success you see “Notification sent to X of Y users!” The button stays disabled until both title and message are filled.
7. Admin home — /admin
Landing with 4 links: Approvals (/admin/approvals), Students/Teachers (/admin/teachers + /instructor/students), Courses (/admin/courses), Settings/Notifications (/admin/notifications). Start here after login.
8. Dashboard — /dashboard (admin/manager view)
“Hey, your name” + 5 stat cards (Students, Teachers, Courses, Enrolments, Sessions), then Recent Courses table (title, grade, teacher, date) and Courses by Grade counts, then portal cards to admin pages.
9. Sessions, students, chat — /instructor/sessions, /instructor/students, /admin/chat
Admins can do everything teachers can: create sessions at /instructor/sessions/new with Create Session, view all students at /instructor/students, and chat at /admin/chat (pick a conversation, type, click Send).
